Honouring the Pangolin: A Tribute Through Art at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair
At this year’s Investec Cape Town Art Fair, we are proud to showcase a deeply moving piece by the talented Qiniso Mungwe, whose latest creation honors one of the most trafficked and poached animals in the world – the pangolin. This large-scale sculpture, brought to life with painstaking detail, is a heartfelt tribute to the pangolin’s resilience and beauty in the face of overwhelming adversity.
Qiniso's meticulous craftsmanship captures the essence of the pangolin’s distinctive shape and character, elevating it from a symbol of vulnerability to one of strength and grace. Painted by the gifted Sthabiso Hadebe, leaving the pangolin’s exterior in the natural cream tone of the clay, allowing the raw texture to shine through. Sthabiso’s intricate patterns within the tail further enhance the sculpture’s authenticity, creating harmony between the natural world and artistic expression. The result is a piece that feels both timeless and grounded in the earth itself.
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of Africa's largest art fair, hosted at the esteemed EBONY CURATED booth. It is an honour to showcase such meaningful work and to celebrate the power of art in sparking conversation and change.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey, and to those who continue to stand with us in bringing powerful pieces like this into the world. Together, we can amplify the voices of nature’s most vulnerable and remind the world of the profound beauty found in even the most endangered of creatures.
We are proud to announce that 10% of sale proceeds were donated to the Tikki Haywood Foundation.
